Five o'clock was finally here - I had time to get home, change my clothes and go for that promised walk with Alan and Pepper before the sun went down (I love it that's it's staying light just a little longer now). But first, a quick stop at Dr. Greg's to get that kink out of my neck. . .ahhh, now home. . .just to find out that Alan, Pepper and Matt had already gone for a walk! Oh well, I can walk faster without them - I was going to get a good 3 mile training walk in. Just before heading out the door, Matt decided he'd go with me and I welcomed his company, as it was going to get dark before I'd get back home and I thought he might push me into going a little faster .
It was a great time, we warmed up with a walk and then ran for awhile but I had to walk again to catch my breath so I could talk! I was telling Matt how it looked like there was plenty of room to walk in the gravel on the side of the road, but that really, it was too soft to walk on. He was being a perfect gentleman and walked on the outside when we got to the main road because he had lighter colored clothes on. It was getting darker, but the moon was shining. We ran across the bridge to get to the other side before more cars came. Matt was telling me that there sure wasn't anything to do in this little town and we were discussing the pros and cons of life in Yoncalla. I almost had him convinced to run the Newport Marathon in June with me when suddenly I felt myself rolling - I didn't fall, I slid and rolled right straight down into a drainage ditch and was more than waist deep in water, mud and who knows what else! I was shocked! Matt was shocked! Oh no, my iphone was in my hand - in the water! I pulled it out fast and handed it to Matt (he couldn't believe I was more concerned for my phone than getting myself out of the ditch). He kept trying to help me out but the bank was all very soft mud. I walked ahead to get to the end of the ditch where I could see rocks and there got my footing and he gave me a hand to get me up out of the muck! A couple of cars slowed and I think were going to stop, but didn't - they must have been trying to decide if Matt pushed me into the ditch, was helping me out or if maybe I'd had a little too much to drink!!! LOL It was SO hilarious! Matt would NOT laugh, though! I told him it was ok to laugh but he said not yet, maybe tomorrow!!! We still had 5 blocks to home and I was SOAKED and it was COLD! By the time we got home, though, Matt had a grin on his face and could not wait to tell his Dad what happened.
All is well - phone was in a good case that protected it, my clothes are washed and dried, nothing is broken (well, I'll see how I feel in the morning - I may need another visit with Dr. Greg!) and I'm off to my nice, warm bed for a good night's sleep - that is if I can quit laughing! I guess I COULD just tell everyone I was training for the mud race with Julie and Tonya!
